After spending most of this week in Washington D.C. attending the Democratic
Leadership Council convention I came away with lots of interesting gossip:
Jim Chapman is running hard for the US Senate from Texas. State Senator John
Montford will not run, as we have predicted. Some Washington consultants
believe that Chapman will be so strong and have such a large war chest that
John Odem will decide not to run and will withdraw prior to the filing deadline.
Meanwhile Richard Fisher has not ruled out running again for the US Senate.
State Senator Jim Turner was busy having meetings to raise funds for his
Congressional race to replace Charley Wilson. Turner was getting a good
reception from the Washington lobby and political crowd.
Robin Rorapuhgh, who ran President Clinton's election in Texas in 1992 and
Richard Fisher's race for the US Senate in 1994 is going to work for media
whiz Ray Strother. The Strothers are moving to Austin where Robin will be
headquartered, but will keep the Washington Office of Strother/Dubby/Strother.
